2. AutoMail
What is AutoMail?
AutoMail is a utility written to cut down the amount of time it takes to use
ftp via Bitnet and a VAX/VMS system. To use ftp commands via Bitnet, one must
go through the ftp server BITFTP@PUCC.BITNET. When bitftp sends the files to
you, they come uuencoded and chopped up into 50k chunks. Getting them back to
useable form can be a rather time consuming process! AutoMail takes care of
everything for you. It goes into mail and "looks" for files "disguised" as
mail messages sent by BITFTP. It extracts all the parts, strips out the mail
headers, appends the files back together, and uudecodes the files for you!
Optionally, you can turn off the uudecoding and/or have the files download via
zmodem and then deleted. And, you can chose between doing this interactively
or as a batch process.
Please note that AutoMail is VAX/VMS specific
- it will not run on any other platform!!!
